About
Suraj Kumar Jaiswal
Suraj Kumar Jaiswal is a tabla artist, teacher, and custodian of the Banaras Gharana, one of the most respected traditions of Indian classical music.
Growing up just steps from the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Varanasi, Suraj grew up in a family of sitar makers and players and began training in tabla at the age of six.

After studying with eminent gurus of the Banaras tradition, Suraj went on to graduate top of his class at Banaras Hindu University, receiving a Gold Medal from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Today, through his teaching and performances across India, Suraj carries forward the Banaras Gharana’s legacy — sharing the tabla as both a devotional practice and a universal language of rhythm that speaks across cultures.
